Las Fotografías de Burton Norton es el relato del viaje que llevaron a cabo el fotógrafo de Oxford Burton Norton y su ayudante W.G. Jones, narrador de la aventura, tiempo después -ya en otro mundo- de que los hechos tuvieran lugar.
Ambos partirán de Oxford y recorrerán el continente europeo con la finalidad de obtener las mejores fotografías posibles. Eran los días en los que la fotografía aún no estaba capacitada para mostrar un mundo que latía.
Probablemente, este no sea un libro para leer con la buena disposición de terminarlo -demasiadas páginas- sino para hojear de vez en cuando. Un relato construido con fragmentos, como las propias piedras que hicieron posible las catedrales góticas y los templos griegos atendidos por la cámara fotográfica de Burton Norton. Una cámara de oscura cavidad, caja de resonancias y de ecos de lo visible, una deficiente sustituta de una memoria rota; la acción contra el olvido quizá se encuentre en las palabras bien dichas.
Finalmente Las Fotografías de Burton Norton pudiera ser una guía práctica -didáctica- para futuros viajeros hacia lugares por nombrar, un recorrido -un inventario- a través de mentes ilustres, obras excelsas y espacios inciertos.

The Photographs of Burton Norton is the account of the journey undertaken by the Oxford photographer Burton Norton and his assistant W.G. Jones, who recounts the adventure some time later, after the events took place.
The two left Oxford and travelled across the European continent with the aim of capturing the best photographs they could. These were the days when photography was not able to show a world that was truly alive.
This is probably not a book to read with the intention of finishing it – there are too many pages – but rather one to leaf through from time to time. A narrative constructed from fragments, like the stones themselves that made possible the Gothic cathedrals and Greek temples captured by Burton Norton’s camera. A camera with a dark chamber, a sounding board and an echo of the visible, a poor substitute for a broken memory; the antidote to forgetting may lie in well-chosen words.
After all, The ‘Photographs of Burton Norton’ could serve as a practical—didactic—guide for future travellers to places yet to be discovered, a journey—an inventory—through famous minds, sublime works and uncertain spaces.
